The Age Action Alliance was launched in 2011 in response to a growing recognition of the need to respond to an ageing society. In particular, to bring together older people and cross sector organisations to work together to celebrate the opportunities and address the challenges of our ageing demographics.

Alliance Success

  • Membership of the Alliance continues to grow as more organisations recognise the value of working in partnership with older people and other sectors to make the most of an ageing population.

Member Success

  • The themes under which Alliance members collaborate through working groups have grown to 14.  This is thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Alliance members.  These themes now reflect many of the key issues which require solutions to ensure older people, especially those who are socially excluded, can enjoy a good quality of life and wellbeing in their later years now and in future.

Alliance Success

  • In 2012, the Alliance celebrated its first anniversary with a Parliamentary Reception attended by member organisations and older people, Parliamentarians and supporters.  We had really positive feedback on the event, for the networking and the opportunity to reflect on progress over the past year and build momentum for the future.  The first Partnership Board meeting took place on the same day, bringing together an equal partnership of older people and organisations to support the direction of the Alliance.

Member Success

  • This website has been made possible thanks to the support of the European Commission in the UK as part of the legacy of the 2012 European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity Between the Generations.  We hope it will continue to provide a platform for sharing good practice and networks developed in 2012, to build on these and develop a hub of good practice on ageing well.

Member Success

  • Members have worked together to produce resources to share thinking and good practice on their group theme.  To find out more, visit the Themes pages.

  • The Safe Warm Homes Working Group has produced a Warm Homes Guide in association with DECC & NEA and engaged on the Green Deal.
