Photo competition awards

On 26th June a small celebratory event was held to recognise prize winning entries to the Alliance photo competition ‘All About Ageing’. Launched last September to mark the Alliance’s second anniversary, the aim was to encourage member participation to promote positive attitudes and images of ageing.

Members of the public and organisations were invited to submit images, which capture older people’s positive involvement in all aspects of society, as well as highlighting the contribution they make.  Over 250 entries were received.

All winning entries have been included in the subsequent Photography Exhibition called “No Negative”.

Photographs were submitted and judged under the following categories.  Judges were particularly interested in images that challenge stereotypes, capture positive aspects of ageing, surprise or entertain, and which could be used to support the work of the Age Action Alliance network:

  • Celebrating Age – Recognising older people’s contribution to society
  • Diverse Ageing – Improving attitudes to ageing across society
  • Mind the Gap – Skill sharing and knowledge transfer across age groups
  • Digital World – Encouraging digital learning and inclusion
  • Ageing Themes – Images linked to the Age Action Alliance themes.
  • Open/General category

The photographs are available to view on the Alliance website, through a photo gallery developed as an ongoing resource to promote the use of positive images by our members and as an alternative for media.  The Secretariat has already received a number of requests to include photographs in a number of national, regional and local publications. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Following the ceremony and exhibition,  winning entries will be exhibited in towns and cities across the country – do get in touch if you have a conference coming up and would like the photographs (on 6 pull-up stands) to brighten up your event.

Ostrich Care are the principle sponsors of the AAA photographic initiative but we are grateful to everyone who has made the project possible.
